Journey of Indian Colts Through the IPL Series – 2008-to-2019

It was probably a divine coincidence that India’s premier cricket league started the very same year when the Indian Colts, led by a precocious talent answering to the name of Virat Kohli, won the World Cup in Malaysia, the second time that such a feat was accomplished by our Under-19 cricketers.

Though the auctions for the first edition of the IPL culminated on January 24, 2008, the Young Turks who had made India proud by lifting the Junior World Cup on March 2 the same year, were co-opted into various teams. Of course, most of them were bought at their base price or possibly even without any price!

Here’s a quick look at those players who came into the limelight and the few who stayed on for the next decade:

Virat Kohli

Well, there’s nothing much we can add to the cricketer who is in line to become cricket’s GOAT in the years to come. At the rate he’s scoring centuries in International cricket, Kohli would surpass a 100 and add a few more by the time he decides to walk into the sunset. In IPL, Kohli was acquired by the Royal Challengers Bangalore, a franchise that he’s stayed with and now leads. Kohli has scored 4948 runs in 163 league games, averaging 38.36 with a strike rate of 130.76.
