Virat Kohli & Boys Sit Atop ICC ODI Rankings After Historic Win
Dubai: The 4-1 lead in the six-game ODI series against South Africa has ensured that India cemented its position at the top of the latest ICC ODI Rankings for teams. Interestingly, Afghanistan rose to 10th after a string of quality performances in recent times.
India came into the series needing to win the series 4-2 to claim the top spot and the 4-1 lead ensured that even if the Proteas win the final game, Virat Kohli and boys will remain at the top. “Even if South Africa win the sixth and final ODI on Friday in Centurion, India will remain No.1 on 121 points, while South Africa will end on 119 points,” ICC said in a statement.
Afghanistan though have to win the series against Zimbabwe if they have to remain in the top-10. This position was a result of the points accumulated after their win over Zimbabwe in the third ODI in Sharjah.
India had entered the six-match series in second position on 119 points, two points behind leaders South Africa. After taking a 4-1 lead, India have moved to 122 points, while South Africa have dropped to 118 points. If India win the series 5-1, they will finish on 123 points, while South Africa will end on 117 points.
This is the first time since October 2017 and fifth overall that India have finished on top of the ODI rankings following the conclusion of a series since rising to No.1 for the first time in January 2013.
