‘Pant Will Now Excel’: Kevin Pietersen Lists 4 Takeaways From IPL
The 12th edition of the Indian Premier League has reached its business end with the Playoffs beginning on Tuesday, 7 May. And month and a half of riveting cricket action, which has featured 56 keenly contested matches between the eight franchises, has given us many memories.
Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen gave his ‘parting thoughts’ on the season on Sunday, 5 May. The cricketer-turned commentator took to Twitter to list out his key takeaways from the season gone by.
For starters, the 38-year old – who played his last IPL game with Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 – weighed on the need for new coaching staff for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab, the bottom three sides of this season.
Pietersen also backed young Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill, saying that they both will be key figures for Indian cricket in the future.
Both the players he named were not included in India’s 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, but it was Pant’s exclusion that had led to a lot of debates and discussions. According to KP, who had featured for Delhi franchise in IPL, Pant’s ‘non selection’ in World Cup squad will be a booster for him.
While Pant has scored 401 runs for Delhi Capitals at a strike rate of 157.87, Gill scored 296 runs for KKR in 14 games at a strike rate of 124.36.
Pietersen also praised India and Indians for their warm gesture.
Several fans responded to South African-born English cricketer, and thanked him even for his commentary during the league.
Some fans also added their own inputs to Pietersen’s list including KKR’s problems and other players that should be talked about..
