India won the ODI series 2-1 against Australia in Melbourne. Yuzvendra Chahal was declared man of the match for his brilliant performance where he took 6-42 in his 10 overs.
MS Dhoni was declared man of the series for his outstanding performance throughout the series. Virat Kohli and his boys have won the first bilateral series in Australia.
Earlier, Indian captain Virat Kohli lost his wicket on a J Richardson delivery after scoring 46 runs off 62 balls. His wicket came as a blow for the Indian side when Kohli and MS Dhoni have just began to build a partnership as the duo take forward India’s chase of 231 runs in the series decider match.
Earlier, India lost its openers when Rohit Sharma (9 runs off 17 balls) edged a Peter Siddle delivery to first slip as he looked to play the flick. He survived a close LBW call early on but has to go back after Australia took the review. Shikhar Dhawan (23 off 46 balls) was caught and bowled on a Marcus Stoinis delivery.
Earlier, Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed his first opportunity in the series while playing in India vs Australia 3rd ODI with both hands. Chahal gave a career-best performance and picked 6 for 42 to decimate Australia for a paltry 230 in the third and final ODI at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. Chahal has also matched Ajit Agarkar’s 6-42 during 2004 tri-series to record the joint best-ever ODI figures on Australian soil. He also improved on his previous best of 5-22 against South Africa at Centurion in January 2018.
Indian bowlers gave a clinical performance as Mohd Shami removed the dangerous man Glenn Maxwell. Both the sides are looking to win the game to end the series on a winning note. The series is currently tied at 1-1.
