Afghanistan, batting first after winning the toss, managed a score of 257/7 after Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 97 not out and was helped by captain Asghar Afghan's half century (56 ball 67). In reply, Pakistan lost Fakhar Zaman in the first over itself but a 154-run partnership between Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq seemed to take the match away from Afghanistan before Pakistan's middle order collapsed yet again in the series.

Rashid Khan (46/3) and Mujibeer Rahman (33/2), the Afghan spinners, yet again weaved magic as their bowling figures suggest. The match went to the last over with Pakistan left with 10 runs to score off the last over. Shoaib Malik, facing the first ball from Aftab Alam, could not score and Pakistan now needed 10 of last five balls.
