3 unique records achieved by Rohit Sharma in T20 Internationals
The stand-in Indian captain made many records in the recently concluded T20I series against New Zealand. Rohit Sharma has been in prolific run-scoring form in recent years, especially in the shorter version of the game and that has recently made him the top run scorer of all time in the format.
He also holds the records for scoring four centuries and two of them came as a captain. He has great technique that is suited to the limited overs format of the game and also has the ability to smash sixes at ease.
He has crossed fifty-plus scores most times in T20I cricket and his Indian team-mate Virat Kohli is not far who stands behind with 19 fifty plus scores. The Mumbaikar also became the first Indian to hit 100 sixes in T20 internationals during the second T20I against New Zealand.
Though most of these records are known to everyone, there are 3 unique records which makes him a special T20 cricketer.
#3 Most percentage of runs in boundaries in an innings (30+ balls faced)
Rohit Sharma scored his first T20I century as captain against Sri Lanka in 2017. He also became the first Indian captain to achieve this special feat. The century came in 35 balls which remains the joint fastest along with David Miller in T20I history.
This helped India to post their highest ever total, 260/5, in T20I history. Both Rahul and Rohit added 165 runs inside 13 overs for the first wicket with Rohit Sharma smashing 12 fours and 10 Sixes during the innings which implied 108 runs coming in boundaries out of 118 runs that he scored.
This is the highest percentage for any T20I innings of 30 or more balls with 91.52%. He broke the record of Ireland cricketer Paul Stirling who currently ranks second with 88.61 when he smashed 54 runs in boundaries out of the 61 runs he scored against Canada in 2012.
#2 Only Cricketer with a century and 3+ catches in a T20I innings
The second T20I match between India and West Indies was held at Lucknow. Windies captain won the toss and asked India to bat first. Indian openers Dhawan and Rohit added 123 runs for the first wicket.
Indian stand-in captain Rohit Sharma went on to score his fourth century in T20 international and became the only cricketer to do this. He also became the only captain to score two centuries in the shorter version of the game. He smashed 111 runs including seven massive sixes as India posted 195 runs on the board.
Windies managed to score only 124 runs for the loss of nine wickets and lost the game by 71 runs. Indian captain had a memorable day with the bat and was excellent as well as a captain.
He also had a great day on the field too as he took three catches during the inning thus making him the first cricketer to score a century and to take three catches in a T20I innings.
#1 First cricketer to score half-centuries in ten different countries
The veteran T20 cricketer Rohit Sharma has proved that he is one of the greatest to play T20I cricket. He has managed to score over 50 runs in an innings on most of the countries he has traveled.
Currently, he has 20 fifty-plus scores in the shorter version of the game, which is the most by any cricketer. He broke the record of Virat Kohli when he scored a match-winning fifty against New Zealand in the recently concluded series.
With the latest half-century that he scored against New Zealand, he also became the first cricketer to score fifties in ten different countries. He had already scored fifties in Australia, South Africa, England, India, USA, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Ireland.
